Chatham Historical Society Exhibit: Back to School Back in the Day through Sept. 30. The Chatham Historical Society’s curated exhibit of photos and artifacts from the history of the Chatham Schools will be on display throughout the month of September in the Library’s downstair’s lobby.
Great Give Back Coat Drive - Donate at Columbia County Libraries Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. As part of this year’s Great Give Back, all eleven Columbia County Libraries are partnering together to collect coats and winter outerwear (hats, mittens, scarves) to donate to local charities. Clean and gently-used donations can be dropped off at each of the County libraries starting Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Donations will be distributed on Oct. 17.
After School Kids Club: K- 5 Grade Explore the world of arts and crafts and join in the fun of expressing yourself through art. Held at 3 p.m. Thursdays. Sept. 15 - Duct Tape School Supplies; Sept. 29 - Pollinator Garden Decorations; Oct. 13 - Pet Treats for the Columbia-Greene Humane Society; Oct. 27 - Dia de los Muertos Crafts.
Stuffed Animal Storytime & Sleepover at 4 p.m. Sept. 16 with pickup between 9 and 10 a.m. Sept. 17. Let your favorite stuffed friend have some fun at the Library after hours! Drop your friend off Friday and help them get ready for the sleepover with some activities, stories and more. Then at 9 a.m. Saturday have breakfast at the library and pick up your friend and find out about all the fun they had at the Library.
Kids Science Storytime & STEAM Activity at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 23. For Preschoolers. Join Talk! Read! Sing! Columbia for a special storytime and STEAM activity! They’ll be reading Bad Case of the Stripes by David Shannon and doing a related color-mixing science experiment.
Hora de Cuentos con la Sra. Sonia / Spanish Story Hour with Miss Sonia 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays Sept. 28 through Jan. 18. Hola amigos! Join Señora Sonia Wednesday mornings at the Chatham Public Library for Hora de Cuentos, bilingual stories, songs, and rhymes in Spanish and English for children ages 3-5. Storytime is open to speakers of all languages. It is a great opportunity to develop early literacy skills and meet other preschoolers and parents in the neighborhood.

Tween & Teen Craft Club Starts Sept. 30 and will be held 3-4:30 p.m. every other Friday. Make new friends and explore your creative side at the library. Sept. 30 - Dream Catchers; Oct. 14 - Pet Treats and Toys for the Columbia-Greene Humane Society; Oct. 28 - Friendship Bracelets.
BYO Book Club for Kids 3:30 p.m. second Tuesdays, next meeting Sept. 13. Made for kids who love talking about books with other book lovers. Come ready to talk about your latest favorite read and help choose future books for the group. For ages 8 to 12. Monday Night Book Club on Zoom at 7 p.m. Sept. 12, A Swim in a Pond in the Rain by George Saunders and 7 p.m. Oct. 3. Paradise by Abdulrazak Gurnah. Life and Times of President Martin Van Buren (1782-1862) at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 via Zoom. This local history program is presented by the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site and the Columbia County Libraries Association. Memoir Writing Group will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 13. Sept. 13 and Sept. 27 via Zoom and Sept. 20 in person. The Memoir Writing Group come from a wide range of life experience, and gather weekly to share and hone their work. Fiction and poetry writers are welcome, too. Make note starting in September, this group alternates between meeting online on Zoom and in-person in the Library’s community room every other week. Invasive Species Identification with Rheinstrom Audubon Center and Sanctuary 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 14. Join educators from Rheinstrom Audubon Center and Sanctuary to learn about invasive species local to New York and what you can do to help nature. They’ll discuss how to ID them and how to remove them safely. The presentation will be about an hour long with time for comments and questions.
Align Your Money with Your Values: Personal Divestment from Fossil Fuels at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 and 6 p.m. Sept. 21. Michael Richardson from the Rivers & Mountains GreenFaith Circle will lead an interactive conversation on how to move your personal finances away from funding fossil fuel extraction, production and distribution and instead see your deposits, premiums and investments used to fund local businesses and farms, affordable housing, and development of regenerative clean energy. Author & Artist Series: Farming in Columbia County at 2 p.m. Sept. 24. Join the Friends of the Chatham Public Library for an informative panel on farming in Columbia County. Many different farms and types of farming comprise agriculture in our county, and a number of local programs are dedicated to supporting our farmers. These include farmland matching, advising, advocacy, and identifying and providing access to resources.
Birds vs. Climate Change with Rheinstrom Audubon Center and Sanctuary 6:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 26. Join educators from Rheinstrom Audubon Center and Sanctuary to learn about how climate change is impacting birds around the globe and what you can do to help! The presentation will be about an hour long with time for comments and questions.
Adult Craft Night 6 p.m. Sept. 26 - Folk Art Pumpkins from Recycled Materials. Meet new people and explore your creative side. Bring your own project to work on or explore a new medium using the Library’s art supplies and work-along instructions. This program will be held in-person at the Library.

Navigators assist individuals, families, small businesses and small business employees in Columbia and Greene counties with shopping for, comparing and enrolling in quality affordable health insurance, including Medicaid and Child Health Plus, through New York State of Health: the Official Health Plan Marketplace.
